Gear Review: Zombie Tools “Rough and Ready”

If you’re ready for zombies, you’re ready for anything.

The boys from Zombie Tools live in my hometown of Missoula, MT, which explains an awful lot.  I saw these guys after making my first machete and poking around the Interwebs for custom machetes, and needless to say, it was love at first site.

This is not only an avid and deadly mutilator of the undead, but it also has proven handy around the garden and in the wood lot.  Of course, as I drive it into a potato mound, I am imagining gutting the life out of a diseased zombie begging for sweet release.  It breaks up the monotony.

Made of 5160 spring steel, this machete is tough enough to take on serious tasks, but requires a good oiling as carbon steel is prone to rust quickly.  This was ZT’s most affordable weapon at $160, but they also make swords and knives that climb upward of $400.  If you’re a serious collector, take a look because these are handmade gems that are sure to grown in popularity as ZT spreads the word of the coming zombie apocalypse.

Unfortunately, you cannot buy the rough and ready machete from Zombie Tools as it has been discontinued, but we got ours just in time.  I keep it in the toolbox of the truck in case we need to jam while we’re rolling out in the DC metro area.

Overall, I’m very pleased with the Rough and Ready, but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing any other ZT blades anytime soon.  I’ve got my fix.
